Shifter Ancestry

+2 Dexterity, +2 Wisdom and -2 Charisma: Shifters are lithe and agile, but their fundamental bestial nature detracts from their reasoning and social ability.

Medium: Shifters are Medium creatures and have no bonuses or penalties due to their size.

Humanoid: Shifters are humanoids with the shapeshifter subtype.

Normal Speed: Shifters have a base speed of 30 feet.

Low-Light Vision: In dim light, shifters can see twice as far as humans.

Children of the Wild: Shifters receive a +2 racial bonus on Acrobatics, Climb and Survival checks.

Shifting (Su): A shifter can tap into her lycanthropic heritage to gain short bursts of physical power.

A shifter can use this ability for a number of minutes per day equal to 3 + her Consitution modifier. Temporary increases to Constitution, such as that gained from bear's endurance, do not increase the total number of minutes that a shifter can shift per day. Shifiting, either to or from bestial form, is a free action that does not provoke attacks of opportunity. A shifter may prematurely end shifting, or begin shifting again, as a similar free action but each use of this ability must be spent in 1 minute increments.

Shifting, although related to and developed from lycanthropy, is neither an affliction nor a curse. It is not passed on by bite or claw attacks, and a shifter can’t be cured — shifting is a natural ability for the race. This is a limited polymorph ability, and thus is affected by spells that target polymorph or similar transmutation effects.

Each shifter has one of the following special traits, which is selected when a character is created and cannot be changed thereafter. All listed effects are racial bonuses, and thus stack with the rage spell and similar effects. These effects only apply while shifting, unless specified otherwise.

  • Beasthide: Gain +2 temporary hit points per Hit Die and a +2 bonus to natural armour.
  • Cliffwalk: Gain a +2 bonus on thrown weapon attack rolls, thrown weapon damage rolls, and gain a climb speed of 20 feet.
  • Longstride: Gain a +2 bonus on thrown weapon attack rolls, thrown weapon damage rolls, and gain a +10 feet bonus to her base land speed.
  • Longtooth: Gain a +2 bonus on melee attack rolls, melee damage rolls, and gain a bite attack (1d6) as a primary natural attack.
  • Razorclaw: Gain a +2 bonus on melee attack rolls, melee damage rolls, and gain two claw attacks (1d4/1d4) as secondary natural attacks.
  • Wildhunt: Gain +2 temporary hit points per Hit Die, and gain the scent ability.

Languages: Shifters begin speaking Common. Shifters with a high Intelligence score can choose from the following: Elven, Gnome, Halfling and Sylvan.
